Camp Waterdown is Hiring: Summer Youth Program Manager & Before & After School Program Educator

Camp Waterdown, the school-age program of Waterdown District Children’s Centre, is looking for:

Summer Temporary Contract Youth Program Manager 

We need an experienced, idea generating and energetic individual with training in Youth Development or Youth Recreation or related studies to join our team as a special Summer Program Manager to organize and implement a new Summer Day Camp Program for youth, aged 13- 17. This position requires part-time availability between now and July for planning, and active involvement with youth groups 35-40 hours per week during July and August (and some part-time for reporting in September).

We are looking for someone that brings together experience in youth enrichment and recreational programming with an enthusiasm to bring new ideas and lead a small team to develop a unique, exciting and innovative new summer program that will appeal to and benefit the expanding and diverse youth of Waterdown and Flamborough Area.


Before and After School Program Educator

We also require an experienced School Year Before & After School Program Educator who loves working with children (aged 3.5 – 12) and leading educational, recreational and fun activities. Part Days and Full Days on School Holidays. Hours and schedule can vary and will be discussed with successful applicants.

Our programs operate out of Allan A. Greenleaf, Mary Hopkins, Guy B. Brown Elementary and a special summertime set-up at the WDHS.


Job Descriptions / Expectations 

For both positions: We will give preference to an applicant most qualified for and applying to both positions to combine into a Full Year Contract position.

We make a commitment to our friendly, well-trained and invested staff of educators by providing compensation at the top levels of our sector and geography as well as ongoing professional development opportunities in a comfortable, caring non-profit work atmosphere. We are an independent partner for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and Ministry of Education Licensed Child Care Facility.

ECE or other childcare education plus related experience are considered an asset. Valid First Aid Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Police Check and familiarity with the Developmental Assets Framework and The Focus on 40 is required.

Summer Temporary Contract Youth Program Manager

  • Create and organize a complete series of weekly personal enrichment and leadership training programs for Youth Leaders in Training aged 13 – 17 including scheduling of any field trips and guest visitors.
  • Lead team of other camp counsellor / leaders and interact with and report to other Camp Staff and Program Supervisors.
  • Implement and lead pre-programmed activities with youth including education, recreation, sports, arts and crafts, healthy living activities and field trips. 
  • Supervise and provide leadership and inspiration for children with a wide range of abilities participating at weekly summer day camp programs to ensure a safe and caring environment that promotes positive child development. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, documentation and daily attendance.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.  This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Report to and interact with Parents / Guardians of participating youth.
  • Understand and implement appropriate youth behavior consequences and restorative justice as required.
  • Assist with set up and clean-up of all activities as well as the lead into and out of the summer. 
  • Create and administer a Camper / Parent Satisfaction Survey
  • Provide a detailed Summer Camp Report and Summary on the Youth Leadership program and its participants.

July and August Contract (35-40 hours per week)

  • with some Part-Time for planning and reporting (unless otherwise engaged by WDCC as below)

Before and After School Program Educator

  • Plan and interact with and report to other program staff and Program Supervisors.

  • Supervise and provide leadership for children to ensure a safe and caring environment that promotes positive child development.

  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the program and all program areas.  This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your children’s safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Report to and interact with Parents / Guardians of participating youth
  • Understand and implement appropriate youth behavior consequences and restorative justice as required.
  • Assist with set up and clean-up of all activities.
  • To participate in the planning and reporting of our Summer Youth Camp if hired in that capacity as well.

Part – Days & Full Day School Holidays Immediately

Qualifications

  • Flexible schedule and availability
  • Experience in leading children’s programs or previous camp experience
  • Must have enthusiasm, be adaptable, dependable and possess an excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
  • Education in Early Childhood Education or related field and experience (Child and Youth, OCT, Teacher, and Recreational Leadership) will take preference
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR 
  • Current cleared Criminal Reference check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Familiarity with the Developmental Assets Framework and The Focus on 40 is required.  
  • Additional day camp, leadership education and youth specific training / experience is an asset.
