Future Fiesta Friday Update

We want to thank all our wonderful families and children who have attended our Fiesta Friday Zoom Sessions.  From our morning stretch, cooking up a storm, releasing our inner Picasso, to having a blast together in the afternoons; we’ve all really enjoyed seeing and being together with you all online Fridays!
For the month of June we will be “pressing pause” on Fiesta Fridays.  Now that better weather is here, and our staff have some preparations to make for modifying and planning our regular programming for re-openings; we are going to take a break on Fiesta Fridays for the next 4 weeks or so.
We will send out an announcement when we decide to re-start our Fiesta Friday Zoom Sessions should they be back by popular demand!
See below for descriptions,  Zoom Links (logged in members only) and project materials suggestions.

Welcome back my fellow sous chefs!!! Today we’re going to get our hands sticky with handmade rice crispy squares!

Let’s also make some messy english muffin pizzas for lunch! Don’t forget to include all your favourite pizza toppings to the delicious recipe.

Handmade Rice Crispy Squares

Ingredients:

  • 1 10z bag of mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 6 cups of crispy rice cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Method:

  • Grease a 8×8” or 9×9″ square pan, set aside.
  • Melt butter in a large, deep sauce pot (5 quarts) over low heat.
  • Once butter is mostly melted, add marshmallows and stir until smooth (this takes about 3-6 minutes).
  • Once butter/marshmallow mixture is smooth, add vanilla extract and stir to combine, then remove from heat.
  • Add crispy rice cereal and sea salt to the large pot with the marshmallow mixture and mix until combined. (If desired, at this point you can add mix-ins like sprinkles M&Ms, etc.)
  • Quickly pour the rice crispy treat mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Use a greased spatula or greased hands to gently press the rice crispy treat mixture into the pan until the top is level.
  • If desired, at this point you can add sprinkles, chocolate chips, etc. to the top. Just be sure to gently press them onto the top of the rice crispy treats.
  • Allow the rice crispy treats to sit at room temperature until cooled, about 1 hour.
  • Cut into 9 or 16 squares and serve!

English Muffin Pizzas

Ingredients:

  • 4 whole wheat English muffins — split
  • 1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3/4 cup prepared pizza sauce — tomato, pesto, or alfredo; whichever your family likes!
  • Tiny Pinch kosher salt
  • Pinch black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese — or cheddar cheese, provolone, or any cheese you like
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Toppings of choice — such as mini pepperonis (or regular pepperonis, quartered), or sautéed veggies, such as spinach or mushrooms
  • Thinly sliced fresh basil — optional for serving

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Arrange the English muffin halves cut side up onto a baking sheet. Lightly drizzle with olive oil. Place in the oven and toast until barely golden, about 4 minutes.
  • Spoon 1 1/2 tablespoons pizza sauce over each one, using the back of a spoon to spread it evenly. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Top with mozzarella cheese and Italian seasoning. Add any desired toppings.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the muffins are browned on the edges. Top with fresh basil. Enjoy hot.

Hints for Joining

A password is embedded in each Zoom Link so that joining in is automatic (but included for backup and “phone-in” callers).

Each session has it’s own Zoom Link so you must use the appropriate link for the time and session you want to join.

  • Once you click a Zoom Link (above or below), it will normally open your web browser and then you will be asked to install a Zoom App if you don’t already have it. It is safe to do so, but you may also be presented an optional link to join us through a web browser instead.
  • We will open the entrance to each session about 5 – 10 minutes before beginning.  Before that time you may get a message saying that the Host hasn’t started the “Meeting” yet. If you want to leave and come back, or loose connection, it is no problem – just use the same link to rejoin.
  • You will start with your microphone feed “Muted” (turned off) as these are one-to-many presentations (and you will only hear our presenter). We will turn on mics for an open discussion or to connect with individual children at the end of a presentation if we have time.
  • You should start with the “Speaker View” by default which will show our presenter large on your screen and other participants in smaller scrolling screens. (You can usually toggle between them by clicking at the top right of your screen.)
  • For privacy you can optionally turn off your Camera and still participate, however all participants can initially see each other.
  • You can change your name shown by clicking on it.
  • You may need to temporarily adjust your speaker volume.

Most importantly, join us and have FUN!
