ETFO (elementary teacher’s union) has shared the following message:
(Jan 15, 2020) The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has given the required five-day notice for Toronto, York Region and Ottawa-Carleton school boards in anticipation of a one-day strike on Monday January 20th.
(Jan 15, 2020) If taken, this legal strike action will be part of rotating strikes by ETFO teacher, occasional teacher, designated early childhood educators, professional support personnel and education support personnel locals.
HWDSB ETFO members include teachers, occasional teachers, and DECE and the school board will most likely close our schools should they happen to strike in Waterdown/Hamilton.
Negotiations are with the provincial government and if a deal is not reached with the union by this Friday, ETFO will commence rotating strikes next week (although our region looks like it will be spared).
How we are preparing.
We will provide a full day program!
An online Pre-Registration Form will be announced and launched in your Family Registration page soon!
Camp Waterdown / WDCC has secured contingent permission to provide a Full Day Alternate Care Program (7am – 6pm, with morning & afternoon snacks) at Guy B. Brown Elementary for our Registered Before & After School Families should schools be closed in Waterdown due to the labour dispute.
We are working on a pre-registration form for our families so that they can register for both a one-day school closure and/or a continued closure (if we are able to continue to provide the alternate care program by the Ministry of Education / HWDSB and City of Hamilton).
The fee for a day will be $47 less a pro-rated amount if you have pre-paid care in our Before or After School Program for THAT day of closure, according to this table:
- Added Fee (if Before School prepaid): $36.36
- Added Fee (if After School only prepaid): $31.46
- Added Fee (if both Before & After School prepaid):$26.30
Please remember: If you normally aren’t attending our Before & After program on the weekday of a school closure, then the full $47 fee would be charged.
That fee will either be pre-paid, or it will be added to your Pre-Authorized Billing if you are a Before or After School Program Registered family.
The City of Hamilton has pre-approved families covered by a Subsidy Contract for our Before & After School program to be covered for the full day according to the Daily Parental Contribution contract fee, if any.
We or the HWDSB may cancel our program should we not be able to safely access facilities to hold the program, or the special permission given changes.
What happens if a settlement is reached before a school closure occurs?
If ETFO is able to resolve its labour dispute with the Ontario government, our Morning and Afternoon programs will be open in all schools for registered families as usual. No additional charges would be levied and any pre-paid registrations would be refunded for care not given.
How will I know?
An announcement will be posted to the web site’s front page, an email sent to registered families, Facebook and Twitter as soon as practical, when a pre-registration form is available, and if any changes to the program are expected.
What if my family is not registered for a Camp Waterdown Before & After School program?
At this time we are unable to admit additional families not registered for our Before & After School to this program. Should that change, a message will be posted as above.
